HOUSTON – Signa Engineering Corp. was featured on a recent KHOU-TV news broadcast concerning health savings accounts. The vignette, which was broadcast June 28, 2005, was part of Channel 11's ongoing "Up Close" editorials featured during nightly 10 p.m. newscasts.

The broadcast focused on health savings accounts (or HSAs), which are basically savings accounts managed by the insured party. A predetermined amount of funds is deposited monthly into the account, and the insured party pays for his/her medical expenses using a debit card that drafts from the HSA.

HSAs are aimed at reforming the ailing health industry in America, since they require prudent purchases to be made. Signa opted to switch from its previous insurance plan to an HSA program this year, and therefore was a perfect fit for the "small business perspective" portion of the KHOU broadcast.

Signa President and COO Bob Davis was interviewed for the program. He told reporter Sher Min Chow that Signa's previous health insurance was costing too much and covering too little. The HSA program helped Signa management overcome some of the problems they experienced with the traditional insurance plan they used since the inception of the company.
